Questions people actually ask.
Yes — any deck over 24 inches off the ground requires a permit from the City of Calgary. TD handles the full permit process for you. We file it, manage the inspection schedule, and make sure everything is signed off before you use the deck.
Calgary's frost depth averages 48 inches. Footings that don't go below the frost line will heave and shift every spring as the ground freezes and thaws. That moves your posts, which moves your frame, which moves your deck surface — boards gap, railings loosen, stairs shift. Every TD footing is poured below frost line. Non-negotiable.
Pressure-treated costs less upfront but needs staining or sealing every 2–3 years, and will eventually crack and grey. Composite (Trex/TimberTech) costs more initially but carries a 25-year fade and stain warranty, never needs sealing, and looks the same in year 20 as year 1. Over a 10-year window, composite is usually cheaper when you factor in maintenance. Kevin will walk you through the real numbers for your specific deck.
A straightforward ground-level deck takes 2–4 days once materials are on-site. Elevated or multi-level builds run 4–7 days. Permit approval from the City of Calgary typically takes 1–3 weeks, which is the main scheduling factor. We build that timeline into your project plan from day one.
May through September is ideal — ground is thawed, concrete cures properly, and you get to actually use it the same season. That said, we book early spring slots fast. If you're thinking about a deck this summer, now is the right time to get assessed.
